If you have one budget and one decision, spend it on tires. Nothing else on a car changes acceleration, braking and cornering simultaneously, and nothing else is as commonly neglected on an otherwise expensive build.
Every horsepower, every braking input and every steering input reaches the road through four patches of rubber roughly the size of your hand. The best engine, brakes and suspension in the world are limited by them.
A 500 horsepower car on worn all-season tires is slower in every measurable way than a 350 horsepower car on good rubber.
People buy wider tires expecting grip. Width helps, but compound is the dominant variable.
Moving from all-season to a good summer tire is the largest single improvement available to most modified street cars, and it costs less than most bolt-on parts.
Rubber hardens over time regardless of tread depth. A tire with plenty of tread that is many years old has lost meaningful grip, particularly in the wet. Check the date code on the sidewall — a garage-kept car on old tires is more compromised than the owner realises.
New tires on a bad alignment is money burned. A car that has been lowered, or has had suspension work, needs a proper alignment with a spec appropriate to how it is driven — not simply factory numbers.
Uneven wear on a set of tires is telling you about the alignment, and it is worth reading rather than ignoring.
Check it regularly and set it for how the car is used. Underinflation causes heat buildup and vague response; overinflation reduces the contact patch. Both cost grip and both are free to fix.

No. We never need a winter tire here, so there is no reason to accept the all-season compromise on a performance car. A summer performance tire gives meaningfully more dry and wet grip in the conditions we actually have.

Generally not for performance. Larger wheels add weight, worsen ride quality and leave less sidewall to absorb Tampa road surfaces. Wheel weight is the variable that matters — it is unsprung, rotating mass, so lighter is genuinely faster.
